Sending audio directly from an external source to your Sonos equipment should work, though. The Nest Mini gives you access to all Google Assistant features, so it's a smart home control device, an entertainer and a plaything. If you’re working with a smaller space, the less costly Sonos Sub Mini is $429 at Sonos . Don't bother buying surround speakers until you own a Sub, though.
For a little more than $100 less, you can get the Samsung Galaxy Watch4 (7/10 WIRED Recommends). It's the earlier generation of our favorite smartwatch for Android users, but it performs well. The Watch4 has a bright OLED screen, is comfortable, and tracks your fitness data accurately.
Network Device Management
But if you're used to the sound quality of a Sonos Playbar or Playbase, you're unlikely to be wowed by the audio. While it has enough bass, it won't rattle the floor without adding a subwoofer. If you need more low end, you can get the Beam bundled with a subwoofer for $999. This smart speaker is meant for the home, rather than for joining you on your next adventure. Google provides a proprietary power adapter to keep Nest Audio chugging along.
Sonos tweaked the design too, adding a polycarbonate grille to the front instead of a fabric cover as seen on the Gen 1 model. That's supposed to make it easier to blend in with your interior decor. It's $50 more than the previous model, which isn't that much more expensive than the already expensive soundbar. It may not offer audiophile-approved sound for its stature, but it's still fairly impressive. The dual-driver system, subwoofer, and tweeter work in tandem to provide a bold bass and clear highs—with zero distortion when the volume is cranked up.
From there enable pairing mode on both the turntable and your Nest Audio using the Google Home app. The only real hurdle that might prevent this from working is if once in pairing mode your turntable can’t automatically connect. Without a phone or a computer to manually select the Google Nest Audio, it’s hard to guarantee if they will pair when both set to Pairing Mode. For this reason, consider this an experiment and not a foolproof plan, and make sure you check the return policy prior when using a trusted retailer.
The Sonos One (8/10 WIRED Recommends) is our all-around favorite Sonos speaker. It may look small, but it sounds big—big enough that we recommend pairing a couple Ones with a Sonos soundbar for a surround set-up. The WH-1000XM5 (9/10, WIRED Recommends) have excellent battery life and even better sound quality. Their fantastic noise cancellation, easy controls, and pleasing design are icing on the cake. If you're upgrading from the simple speakers built into your TV, or a lowly stereo soundbar, it's a fantastic and simple upgrade to make to your home cinema system.
